Everett Ron Lyons died Saturday, May 28, in Kalamazoo.

He was born March 16, 1933, in Martin, the son of Everett and Charlotte “Ruth” (Finley) Lyons. Ron graduated from Martin High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Ron worked at Hydreco, Pemco and for 24 years at Checker Motors until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed 26 good years of retirement.

He liked following Plainwell and Martin High School sports, especially soccer. Ron was a devoted NASCAR fan and loved building and flying model airplanes with his very good friend, Jim Hainen. Ron also enjoyed skeet and trap shooting and for 10 years was the president of the Gun River Trap and Skeet Club.

On July 12, 1958, in Gobles, he married Nancy Hale, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Kathy Lyons of Kalamazoo and Jeff Lyons of Plainwell; three grandchildren, Lacee (Steven Hatto) Lyons, Stephanie (Alex) Perry and Shane Lyons; four great-grandchildren, Calihan, Caine, Adrienne and Otto; siblings, Donna (Joe) Flegal and Linda Hobbs along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lucy “Pete” Lyons; mother, Ruth Abrams; son, Rodney in 2012 and by his brother, Dewey Lyons.

Friends may visit with Ron’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, and from 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, until the time of the funeral at 11., with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. Military honors by Otsego VFW Post 3030.
