Former Wayland High Scphoto_20160127_WM0059140_0_weykamp_gerard_photo_20160127hool social studies teacher Gerard Weykamp, age 78, died Monday, Jan. 25.
Gerard was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Ferris Institute and Michigan State University. He was an avid outdoorsman, traveler and was active in Boy Scout Troop 292. He taught at Wayland High School in the early 1960s.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anita; children Kathy (David) Erdmans, Rob (Helen) Weykamp, Ann (Ed) Olmeda, Greg (Kathy) Weykamp; daughter-in-law Jill Weykamp; 12 grandchildren Matthew (Natalie), Michael, Anthony, Nicholas, Aliina, Lydia, Alex, Lauren, Thomas, Caroline, Thomas, Virginia; siblings Judy (Paul) Wojtas, Ben (Nancy) Weykamp, Suzanne (Alan) Langlois, Jane Taylor, Rosemary Scott, Kristine (Michael) Carpenter; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son David G. Weykamp; parents Anthony (Ann) Weykamp; siblings Mickie McLamara and Leo Weykamp.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Cook Funeral Home (West Building), 4235 Prairie St., S.W., Grandville, MI with a time of sharing and prayer at 8 p.m. An additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave, S.W., Grandville, with a funeral mass following at 11 a.m. Father Chris Rouech will be officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
