Mary DeMann died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at her home in Martin after a brief illness. She was 62.

She was born March 30, 1958, in St. Joseph, to the Rev. Emerson and Eleanor Minor. The youngest of five children, Mary graduated from Plainwell High School in 1976. While in high school she played a supporting role in the musical, “The Wizard of Oz.”

She graduated from Pine Rest School of Nursing in 1978 with an LPN degree. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Pipp-Borgess Hospital in Plainwell.

Mary was an active member of East Martin Christian Reformed Church. She was a volunteer at Christian Neighbors and helped pack summer kid food bags and helped with newsletters. She also enjoyed camping, word puzzles, mowing the lawn, knitting, crocheting and baking. She took pleasure in decorating her old farmhouse in “old farmhouse” style. She loved to “gator” back and forth to the farm where she would feed calves with her granddaughter, Kinsler. She walked nearly every day and loved studying the Bible.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, of nearly 39 years, her son, Brian (Jill) DeMann and her granddaughter, Kinsler DeMann and her in-laws, Paul and Betty DeMann, all of Martin. Mary is also survived by her siblings, Tad (Carol) Minor of Traverse City, Martha (Robert) Reeves of Kalamazoo, Tom (Melinda) Minor of Tecumseh and Rev. Dan (Jolene) Minor of Otsego. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, their children and cousins.

Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the East Martin Christian Reformed Church, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, with Pastor Derek Noorman and Pastor Mark Heijerman officiating.

Burial will follow at East Martin Cemetery.
