William John Schaendorf, age 79, of Dorr, died Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Bill had two passions in life. The first, building quality homes in West Michigan with more than 1,400 built with his brother Bob. The second was farming; he purchased back the family farm in 1973. The farm continues operating today with the fifth and sixth generations.

He is survived by his son, Jim (Lisa) Schaendorf; and his daughter, Debbie (Ken) Schafer; four grandchildren Ashley (Colten) DeHaan, Tyler (Cassie) Schaendorf, Cody Schafer, and Morgan Schafer; and his brother, Bob (Linda) Schaendorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Agnes Schaendorf; his wife, Norma (Hilaski) Schaendorf; his brother, Jimmy Schaendorf; and his sister, Arlene Blank.

His funeral will be held at at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4125 18th St., Dorr, with Pastor Stephen Otto officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m, at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr, and Monday one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Visitation Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice – Trillium Woods.

I never had the honor of knowing Mr. Schaendorf but if a man can be judged by his children, Jim his son is an outstanding man and public servant. My sincere condolence to the family.
