Donald L. Kiel, 83, of Hilliards, died Monday, Sept. 16.

Don was a United States Army veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and retired from Clausing Corporation. He was quite the character and loved to tell jokes and stories to anyone he met. In his younger years, he liked to hunt and fish; and later in life, you could find him riding his lawnmower through the town of Hilliards and listening to his polka music.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Kiel (nee Kipen); children John (Michael Ann) Kiel, Cheryl Edema, Ron Kiel; grandchildren Jimmy Kiel, Isaiah Kiel, Noemi Kiel, Nicole Kiel, Gary Edema, Jenna Edema, Rylee (Ricky) Latter, Adam Kiel; great-granddaughter, Valentina Kiel; sisters MaryLou Belka, Janice (Floyd) Ertle; uncle, Larry Amborski; sisters-in-law Linda Andres, Louise Kipen, Susan (Craig) Welton, Betty (Cal) Schaeffer; brothers-in-law Bill Kipen, Butch Simons, Larry Goodman, Dick Enyart; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Little Donnie; parents Russell and Margaret Kiel; siblings Rose Enyart, Jerry Kiel, Russ Kiel; and son-in-law, Gary Edema.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home (Dorr Chapel), 4330 18th St., with prayers of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 136th Ave., Dorr, with visitation at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
