Michael John Damveld, longtime owner of the Wayland BP gas station, died Sunday, Oct. 21. He was 64.
Mike was a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Council 4036. He was an avid sports fan who loved to support the Cubs, Tigers, Red Wings and the Lions. He served his community for many years through the local business of Wayland BP.
A 1972 graduate of Wayland High School, he was a member of the Wayland varsity baseball team.Mike had a love for his family and also for everyone he met. This love was shown by always putting others before himself.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Jo Damveld; children, Mark (Ellen) Damveld, John Paul (Stacy) Damveld, Steven (Stephanie) Damveld, James (Jessica) Damveld, Sarah Damveld; grandchildren, Hannah, Leah, Katelyn, Adam, and Michael Paul Damveld; brother-in-law, Gary Weber; siblings, Greg (Mary) Damveld, Rick (Sandy) Damveld, Linda (Scott) Hall, Tom (Pam) Damveld, Lois (Ed) Huver, Laura Damveld, Lanette (Joe) Einig, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Shirley Damveld.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, Wayland Chapel, 312 N. Main St. with prayers of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 128 Cedar St., Wayland with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to Mass. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery
