Funeral mass will be Friday for Sgt. Ronald Spoors

After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Sgt. First Class Ronald Stuart Spoors (retired), known affectionately as Butchie, died at his home on March 3. He was 76.

Ron was husband of 44 years to Johanna, and father to Jeff (Patty), Kim (John), Jamie, Stacey (Varren), and Julie. He was grandfather to Destiny (Jefferson), Zach, Ashlynn, Caitlyn, Joshua, Samuel, Ellie, Molly, Jenny, Jessi (Ryan), and Jordan, and a great-grandpa to two boys.

Ron served 26 years in the Army National Guard and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He carried his service with honor and remained deeply proud of his country, his heritage as a Dutch boy, and most of all, his family.

He is survived by siblings Sue (Tim), Bonnie (Jeff), Denny (Sue), Ron (Sandra), and Sandy, along with many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean, and his brothers Rick and Brian. His strength, dedication and steady presence will be remembered always.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home – Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville.
