Roger J. Lenard, age 84, died Thursday, Oct. 18.

Roger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, Byron Center Post #292, VFW Wayland Post 7581, and the Knights of Columbus-Hillards. Roger worked as a Nehi beverage distributor.

He was the owner of Countryside Inn (The Tavern) in North Dorr for 20 years. Roger always enjoyed turtle trapping, hunting, fishing, a good game of cards, and a cold beverage. He will be dearly remembered for his mischievous grin and plaid shirts.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane Lenard; children Deb (Rick) Lameyer, Mark (Janine) Lenard, Michael (Jennifer) Lenard, Timothy Lenard, Susan (Rob) Gemmen, Joan (Ron) Knipping; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jere Musser; sisters-in-law Patricia McElwee, Sandra (Leonard) Gill, Patricia Fein, and Judy Fein; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Florence Lenard; son, Kevin Lenard; daughter-in-law, Tammy Lenard; siblings Tom (Dorothy) Lenard, Marjean Musser; in-laws William and Genevieve Fein; brothers-in-law Robert Fein, Kenneth Fein, and John McElwee.

Visitation with relatives and friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St., Byron Center, with rosary beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Mary’s Visitation Church, 2459-146th Ave., Byron Center, with Fr. Alphonse Savarimuthu as celebrant. Interment is at Visitation Cemetery-North Dorr.

In memory of Roger and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wayland VFW Post 7581, American Legion Post 292, or Faith Hospice.

Mike your dad was a wonderful man. Had a few brews with him at the VFW . Sometimes i was going by not going to stop but saw the green pickup glad i did .Will miss him.
