Funeral mass will be Thursday for Bryce Olson

Bryce Everett Olson died Saturday, Oct.18, in Byron Center. Born March 14, 1936, he was 89.

Bryce married Margaret Schaendorf of Wayland on Feb. 11, 1961. They raised their daughters in Byron Center, where they resided for 60 years.

He worked for Country Fresh Dairy in Grand Rapids for 34 years. He loved motorcycling, particularly long-distance trips. He liked to tinker with his antique tractor and took meticulous care of his beautiful yard. He was deeply religious, very industrious, and immensely compassionate.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Anne Olson. Bryce is survived by his daughters Denise Olson of Durham, North Carolina, Lori (Jeff) VanderKam of Wayland, Michigan, and Katherine (James) Brower of Alto, Michigan. “Grandpa Olson” was loved by his grandchildren Jessica VanderKam (Derek), Mitchell (Kristi) VanderKam, Kaitlyn (Tyler) McGahan, Madelyn Brower (Brennan), Dylan Brower, Carl Solik, Sean (Alexis) Solik; and by his 12 great-grandchildren.

Bryce is also survived by his brother, Dennis Olson, and his sisters Cynthia (James) Zuidema and Marcia Morris. He was preceded in death by his brothers Curtis Olson and Gerry Olson and by his sisters Linda Brolin and Sandra Granquist. He also was preceded in death by his parents John and Eunice Olson.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at St. Therese of Lisieux Church, 128 Cedar St., Wayland, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Luncheon will be provided at the VFW Post, 735 S. Main St. Wayland, following the funeral mass.

In memory of Bryce and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church.
