Ruth Ann Hazen, 78, of Hopkins, died Sunday, April 30, at her home.
Born Sept. 7, 1938, in Grand Rapids, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mildred Adamczyk Moraski and the wife of the late James Walter Hazen. Ruth was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service.
She loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers, and had been a member of the Hopkins Athletic Boosters for many years. Ruth prided herself on keeping a very neat home, which included the outside. She took great joy in mowing her lawn, planting her flowers and watching the birds at the bird feeders. The peace and quiet of reading and working jigsaw puzzles were also favorite pastimes.
Above all else, however, Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her children, Julie Switek and husband Larry, Bob Hazen and wife Sue, Terry Ratliff and husband Darrell, Tracy Iciek and husband Tom, and Rick Hazen and wife Michelle; sisters, Janice Hilaski and husband Bob, and Elaine Hazen and husband Jack; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Stephanie Switek.
The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Wings of Hope Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
