Former Hopkins Board of Education member Carl Francis Johnson, Sr., 96 of Allegan, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Allegan General Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1923, in Lawrence, he was the son of Roe and Margie (Utter) Johnson and the husband of Marjorie (Dyer) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Army. He served during World War II; specifically during the invasion of North Africa and the invasion of Southern France.

His career with Rockwell International, formerly Blood Brothers, spanned 43 years prior to retirement.

Johnson also loved to tend to the family farm in Watson Township. He was a former member of the Hopkins Public School Board and served on the Board of Directors for Rockwell Public Credit Union and was instrumental in establishing Allegan Community Credit Union.

Johnson was a longtime member of Allegan Bible Church where he was a member of the Board of Directors and helped to build the new church in the location where it is today. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

Besides his wife, Marjorie, of 29 years, he is survived by his children, Pat Johnson, Trudy (Alan) Kinney, Linda (Dave) Hays, Sam (Cathy) Johnson and Ted Johnson; siblings, Marv Johnson, Ruby Hyde, Roscoe Johnson and Rex Johnson; grandchildren, Dominick, Krista, Lauren, Joshua, Aaron, Nathan, Shawn, Kacey, Heather, Ian, Torey, Becky and Ginnie; and many loving great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Winnifred; his siblings, Clair Johnson, Bob Johnson, Don Johnson, Alice Jones and Bernice Andre; and his daughter-in-law, Misty Johnson.

The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Allegan Bible Church. Private interment will take place at Miner Cemetery, Watson Township.
