Funeral Monday for ex-WHS student Michael Van Dorp, 63

Former Wayland Hiphoto_20160728_WM0073411_0_20160728gh School student Michael Van Dorp, 63, of Vermontville died of cancer Thursday, July 28.
Michael attended Wayland High School and then joined the Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam. He then became a cop, EMT and firefighter, then went on to a career at Amway from which he retired. Michael was a family man with a wonderful sense of charming humor. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed farming. He lived out his Christian walk while attending Kilpatrick United Brethren Church.
He is survived by his loving wife Suzan K. Van Dorp; sons Michael (Elizabeth) Van Dorp, Daniel (Shirley) Van Dorp and Matthew Van Dorp; daughters Katie (Johnathon) Hagen, Kathlyn (Charles) Newcombe; 8 grandchildren; brothers Jacob and Thomas (Karen) Van Dorp.
Visitation is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Funeral services will be held at the Kilpatrick United Brethren Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, with burial taking place at Woodland Memorial Park, Woodland. Memorial are suggested to the family to help with expenses.
