Garnet D. Lain, age 86, died Wednesday, May 1.

Garnet was the commander of the American Legion for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He loved his country. Garnet enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, restoring guns, but most of all, he loved his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children James Lain, Sam (Lisa) Lain, Valerie (John) Verner, Melaine Lain, Luke (Lisa) Lain, Sherry (David) Bluhm; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings Jack (Sharon) Rosemeyer, Sue (Sam) Moody; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucia Lain; parents Earnest and Famie Lain; brothers Vernon Lain, Ray Lain, Jerry Lain, Lloyd Lain; and sister, Irene Waterson.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, with a Rosary starting at 7:30 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at St. Mary’s Visitation, 2459 146th Ave. SW, Byron Center. Fr. Christopher Derda will be presiding. Interment will be at St. Mary’s New Salem Cemetery.

In honor of Garnet, contributions may be made to Dorr American Legion Post #127.
