David John Mulder of Dorr died Monday, April 10, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 73.

Born on Oct. 12, 1949, to the late John and Lois Mulder, he grew up in Grandville. During his college years, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and did a tour in Vietnam. Upon his return, he married his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Nobel, daughter of the late Arie and Everdene Nobel.

He loved playing golf with family, coaching softball for the church, hunting with his sons and grandsons, and raising his prized beef cows on his hobby farm in Moline.

Dave worked in the furniture industry, where he found his true calling in furniture upholstery by making any piece of furniture look brand new and earning an excellent reputation around the state with many customers.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Nobel) Mulder, and his children: Heather (John) Wolf, Jill (Geoff) Bronsink, Renee (Joel) Quist, and David (Rachelle) Mulder, along with his grandchildren: Michael (fiance Lucy), Madison, and Marlee Wolf, Geoffrey Jr., Alyssa, and Emily Bronsink, Megan (Sam) Novak, Seth, Nikki, and Kylie Quist, Xzavier, Everett, Zander and Ariella Mulder, and great-grandchildren Luka Novak and Harlyn Wolf. He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws: Kathy (Bill) Maas, Jack (Linda – deceased) Mulder, Mary (Steve) Kloster, Arie – deceased (Sybel deceased) Nobel, Peter – deceased (Ruth) Nobel, Mary (Tom) Hoekstra, Faith (Ron) Bosserman, Joyce VanderBent-Davids – deceased (Ron VanderBent – deceased, Clarence Davids deceased), Jacque (Don) Jonker, Jan (Justin) Otten, John Nobel, Dennis Nobel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Trinity United Reformed Church (7350 Kalamazoo Ave., Caledonia, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service Friday, April 14, officiated by Rev. Jacob London at Trinity United Reformed Church. Private interment service will be at Jones Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jephthah Nobel.
