Jordan Thomas Sopjes of Dorr died Tuesday, Feb. 20, in a traffic crash. He was only 22.

He was born Sept. 25, 2001, in Grand Rapids.

Jordan was in his final semester at the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay, studying human biology. He swam the butterfly and freestyle at UWGB as well. He attended Wayland High School, where he was a record holder on the swim team. Jordan also swam on the USA team at Byron Center under coach Don Kimble.

All who knew Jordan, loved him. Playing chess, golfing and walks with Kona were some of the things he enjoyed.

He is survived by his father and step-mom Jack and Becky Sopjes; siblings Brandon (Brianna) Sopjes, Baily Sopjes, Haley Stersic, Cassie (Tyler) Diemer, Lanie Stersic, Jed Stersic; his very close friend, Jacqui Rude and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Jordan is preceded in death by grandparents, Don and Joyce Sopjes, Tom and Shirley McGovern and his mom, Erin Sopjes.

A service to celebrate Jordan’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, at Corinth Reformed Church, 129 – 100th St, Byron Center, with visitation two hours prior to the service.
