Lon LaVern Arndt, age 71, died Friday, Jan. 9, following a five-year battle with cancer.
He married Dawn (Malone) Arndt in 1979, and they shared more than 46 years of marriage. Lon’s greatest joy was his family — his wife, his daughters and son-in-law, and his grandchildren. He had a strong faith in the Lord and was a generous and selfless man.
Lon was a Hopkins High School graduate, Class of 1972. He retired from Sandy Pines after 40 plus years as maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed woodworking and especially restoring antique furniture. He made many wooden crosses to give away to special friends and those who needed encouragement. Lon could build it or if it was broken, he could fix it, a true jack of all trades.
He is survived by his wife Dawn Arndt; children Kristi (Ben) Fifelski and Becki Arndt; grandchildren Claire and Sam Fifelski; siblings in-law Dan (Dawn) Malone, Sherri Malone and Joeann Compton; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Lon’s funeral will be at noon Thursday, Jan.15, with an hour’s visitation beforehand at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel 208 West Main St., Hopkins.
