Jerry Halden Hazen, 79, of Hopkins, died Sunday, Jan. 29, at Wings Home in Allegan.
Mr. Hazen was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Grand Rapids, the son of the late Halden and Ethel (Leggett) Hazen. He spent most of his life as a truck driver. He retired as a loader operator from Grand Rapids Gravel Company.
He was fortunate enough to marry his true love, Sarah Alice McCullough (known as Alice) and together raise two children. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being a part of their lives. Jerry tried to be a good example of what a father and grandfather should be.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Alice; their daughter, Debbie Ruthruff; six grandchildren, Matt and Jessica Hazen, Paul and Marsha Hazen, Amanda and Cory Perrin, Sara VanSingel, Jeremy and Amanda Harrington, Luke and Vicky Harrington; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack and Elaine Hazen; sister-in-law, Ruth Hazen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Halden and Ethel Hazen; his son, Mark Hazen; grandson-in-law, Brian VanSingel; and two brothers, Bruce Hazen and Jim Hazen.
Friends may meet with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday  and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Private interment for immediate family at Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township.
Memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the Diabetes Foundation or Wings of Hope Hospice.
