Howard Ray (Howie) Osterhouse Jr., 47, died peacefully Dec. 30, 2015, at his home in Dorr, with his wife and daughters by his side.
Howie was born March 25, 1968, in Kalamazoo, and moved to DeLand in 1989, where he owned and operated Osterhouse Services Inc. Howie returned to Michigan in 2010 to work for West Michigan Auto Auction.
He married Renee Bennett on Dec. 31, 1995, and the couple had two daughters together. He, Renee, Julia and Heather were blessed to enjoy their life alongside Katelyn Elizabeth Bruny, 23. He was thankful to Richard and mother Kathryn Bruny for the weekends they shared.
Howie was a social, active man, who was involved in his community and Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand. He enjoyed attending and instructing at driver-education events for the Porsche Club of America.
Mr. Osterhouse is survived by his wife of 20 years, Renee Bennett Osterhouse, and his daughters, Julia Raye Osterhouse, age 17, and Heather Renee Osterhouse, age 15; his parents, Howard Ray Osterhouse Sr. and Joanne Jean Kegeler Osterhouse of DeLand; his father’s sons, Brian (Pam) Osterhouse of Peyton, Colo., Dennis (Eladia) Osterhouse of Cape Coral, and Donald Osterhouse of Tallahassee; Joanne’s children, Janice (Randy) Bruny-Stone of Plainwell, Demi Carol (Dave) Bruny Pilot of Dowagiac, and Richard Bruny of DeLand, father of Katelyn Bruny; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation and service will be Saturday, Jan. 16, at Crosswind Community Church in Dorr, with a reception to follow at the West Michigan Auto Auction to celebrate Howie’s life.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love and support Howie received over his 10-year struggle: our church family at Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand, who helped through Howie’s battle with cancer, and the ALS Organization of Grand Rapids.
Flowers may be sent to 1683 142nd Ave., Dorr, MI 49323. However, if you prefer, memorial donations may be made to West Michigan Connected Family at 800-577-2886.
