Erin Kelly Sopjes (McGovern) 51, of Dorr, died of cancer Thursday, Dec. 26.

Erin was born Jan. 14, 1968, raised in the suburbs of Detroit, attended Southgate High, and graduated from Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic High School. She then attended Hope College and joined the Army and completed the nursing program.

Married in 1990 to Jack Sopjes and had 3 children, Brandon Sopjes, Baily Sopjes, Jordan Sopjes. Erin worked as a nurse as recently as January of this year at MediLodge of Wyoming. Erin enjoyed her family, running, gardening and her dogs and kids’ sports.

She is survived by husband Jack Sopjes, children Brandon, Baily and Jordan, sisters Susan Barcikoski and Lauri Rodgers.

Erin was preceded in death by father Tom McGovern in June 2012. mother Shirley McGovern, Jan. 20, 2019.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Corinth Reformed Church, 129 100th St SE, Byron Center. Visitation will be before 2 p.m.
