Weather sirens in Wayland went off about 4 p.m. Friday off due to a reported tornado on the ground in the area of Salem Township, 146th Avenue and 27th Street, aka the Bunker Hill area.

The National Weather Service reported that the funnel clouds protrude a few hundred feet downward from the base and then dissipate. They typically do not pose a hazard.

Wayland Union Schools officials reported students on four buses Nos. 16, 20, 6, and 1 were being re-routed to the Wayland Union Schools transportation building because of funnel clouds spotted in the Dorr area.

“If your child has not been dropped off at home yet, they will be transported to the Wayland Union Schools transportation building and can be picked up from there. Please contact Transportation at 269-792-2262 if you have any questions.”

There have been reports of damage as yet.
