Celebration of life for George Goorhouse is at Wayland VFW

A celebration of life memorial for George Goorhouse will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday Aug. 24, at Wayland VFW, 735 S Main St,.

Goorhouse, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Tuesday, July 30. he was 78. George was born Nov. 29, 1940. in Byron Center to Garret and Hazel Goorhouse.

George enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren throughout the summers, and hunting deer in the fall. He could be found most mornings enjoying a cup of coffee and watching wildlife that surrounded his home in northern Michigan. When George wasn’t spending time with family he could be found at his favorite spots playing cards and swapping old fishing stories with friends.

George attended Woodward Baptist Church.

George, who has been cremated, was preceded in death by his wife, Pam; father, Garrit; mother, Hazel; and siblings, Glen, Warren, Tom, Wayne, Beatrice, Cecil and Helen.

He is survived by his three children, Garret (Teresa), Geana, and Geta (Kevin); eight grandchildren, Gary, Kyle, Nick, Lindsey (Michael), Kayla (Ben), Katelyn (Guy), Gavin and Hazel, seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Devon, Evan, Kailynn, Henry, Dean and Olive; brother, Dale; many step-children, grand-children and great-grand children.
