German native Horst Kukulies dies at his Hopkins home

Horst Heinz Kukulies died peacefully at his home in Hopkins Tuesday, March 17,at the age of 89.

Horst was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1956. Shortly afterward, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in Korea.

In 1964, he married Barb Wergin, and together they built a life filled with family, laughter, and shared adventures for nearly 62 years.

A jack of all trades, Horst was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. He especially cherished time spent with his loved ones – bowling weekly with his sons and grandsons in a local league, golfing, and enjoying his Sunday night pool games with his sons.

Horst is survived by his wife, Barb Kukulies; their two sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Kim Kukulies and Brian and Lisa Kukulies; five grandsons and their wives – Matt and Jill, Jared and Jaclyn, Josh and Audrey, Isaac and Megan, and Connor and Kelley Kukulies. He was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Arlen and Beau; and five great-granddaughters Amelia, Avery, Alayna, Elsie and Evelyn.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services (Dorr Chapel), 4330 18th St., with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

In memory of Horst and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
