
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Gun Lake Area, Inc. held a successful golf outing Aug. 9 at Orchard Hills Golf Course, Shelbyville.
This annual outing and silent auction raises money for scholarships for four area high schools surrounding the Gun Lake area
“We are very appreciative of all the golfers, sponsors, and the members of the club and their families who make this event possible, said GFWC member Patricia Velie. “We offer a Premier Scholarship and two Trades/Vocational Scholarships to each of the four high schools’ senior class. Art Grants are also offered to the underclassmen for summer programs.”
Premier Scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to Abigail DeWeerd, Wayland Union, Ellyse Blackburn, Martin, Claire Wesolowski, Delton Kellogg, and Evan Lui, Thornapple Kellogg.
Trades/Vocational Scholarships of $500 each went to Adam VanHouten, Martin, Owen Corner, Thornapple Kellogg, Eric Belka, Thornapple Kellogg, Madelynn Palmer, Delton Kellogg, Emma Dykhouse, Delton Kellogg $500.
“We did not have an application from Wayland this year,” Velie said.We awarded 9 Art Grants this year as well.
GFWC Gun Lake Area Women’s Club works with Barry Community Foundation to facilitate the applications for scholarships. Special arrangements have been made for the students of the two Allegan County Schools to be able to apply through the foundation.
