My grandma called sloppy joe ‘lippy lappy’

The exact origins of the sloppy joe are debatable, however, I feel we can all agree our own grandma’s recipe was always the best.

“Lippy Lappy” is what my Grandma called her recipe, and yes I can claim it was the best! This recipe makes around 5 cups.

Ingredients:

3 pounds ground meat – beef was used here

1 1/2 cups ketchup

3/4 cup chile sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar or to taste

Directions:

Fry your ground meat until it’s crispy brown and crumbled draining the fat off it when finished. Make a well in the center to open a space, adding the ketchup, chili sauce, and brown sugar, stirring well to make sure the sugar is dissolved, then stir to combine. Let the sauce simmer gently to allow it to thicken slightly.

Serve and enjoy!
