Graveside service set for Schaorie Bryce-Meredith

Schaorie K. Bryce-Meredith of Grand Rapids died at age 63 Tuesday, June 20, while battling breast cancer for the third time.

Schaorie served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and often reminded others that “once a marine, always a marine.” She worked hard to raise her two children, and was known by everyone as a strong woman. After they left home, she remarried, fostered children, bred champion bulldogs, and worked at the U.S. Post Office until retirement.

During her retirement, she loved to knit blankets for others and to donate to charity, read books, watch movies and true crime TV shows, and eat cookies.

She is survived by two children Lori, and Vance (Chrystal) McClenton; mother, Ethel Howell; brother, Steve (Brenda) Howell; sister, Shelli (Rick) Fox; grandchildren Amadeus and Demitrius McClenton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Meredith; father, Kenneth Howell; and sister, Lori Howell.

As she prearranged, a simple informal graveside service will be held at her and her husband’s shared plot in Elmwood Cemetery June 27.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization about which Schaorie felt strongly
