Marijane Susan DeWeerd, a mentally and physically handicapped individual injured by vaccine in the 1960s, died Monday, Oct. 25. Mary, born May 27, 1958, in Plainwell, was 63.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland Township.

Her survivors include older brother, Kenneth DeWeerd of Alto, TX; younger brother, Wayne DeWeerd of Byron Center; half siblings Nick DeWeerd and Ashley Swainston of Hopkins; niece, Lindsay Beattie of Shelbyville; nephews Tyler DeWeerd of St. Claire Shores, Trevor DeWeerd of Byron Center and Nicholas Oglesbee of Plainwell.

Kathy Mason and colleaguesBrenda Janke, Sandiee Preston, Tiffany Lantz, and Donna and Marinus DenHarder from the Blessed Edge Adult Foster Care facility in Plainwell provided care for Mary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Edge AFC, 377 North Main St., Plainwell, MI 49080.
