A site plan Phase II of the Green Acres assisting living facility just to the north of East Superior Street was approved without comment Tuesday night by the Wayland City Planning Commission.
Engineer Peter Buurstra, representing the developer, LRE, was on hand to answer any questions from the commissioners, who said the plans were so well laid out they had none.
Green Acres is an assisted living facility generally for local senior citizens and its director is Jennifer Barker Osentoski. Phase II mostly involves an addition to the current building, which opened for business last year.
In other business at Tuesday night’s meeting, Planning Commission members:
• Re-elected Chairman J.D. Gonzales, Vice Chairman Sam Dykstra and Recording Secretary Gary Ragan. Dykstra was asked to serve another one-year term though he said he continues to plan to be in Florida for three winter months every year.
• Heard a report from City Planner Kirk Scharphorn Jr. that he has received a huge number of inquiries about local municipalities adopting an ordinance to permit a medical marijuana dispensary. Watson Township already has declined to develop an ordinance, but is polling its residents on the issue. City Manager Tim McLean reported the City of Buchanan has decided to develop an ordinance to permit dispensaries and it may serve as a model for others.
