Gun Lake area car business owner Bill Postema dies at 92

John “Bill” Postema, age 92 of Gun Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 24.

Bill was a World War II veteran, an entrepreneur and business owner. He was the “life of the party.” He was a great mechanic, loved to race boats and cars, and fish. Bill had a passion for dogs, helping others, butter pecan ice cream and barbecued ribs.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen; children, Kim (Ja-Lene) Postema, and Lisa (Bob) Freeman-Seitz; grandchildren Zach Postema, Kyle Postema, and Madison VanderPloeg; siblings Maxine DeVrou, Elouise DeBoer, and Martin “Joner” Postema; several nieces and nephews. He is also fondly remembered by many friends on Park Drive and around Gun Lake; Woods ‘N Water RV Park, Mt Dora, Fla.; the McDonald’s morning “solve the world’s problems” crew; and many fellow car dealers around Grand Rapids and at the car auctions.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Sena Postema.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Interment will be at Robbins Cemetery.

In honor of Bill, contributions may be made to Paws with a Cause, Wayland, or The Leukemia Society, Grand Rapids.
