Gun Lake Casino was honored as one of the “West Michigan’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For” by the National Association for Business Resources, according to Grand Rapids Business Journal.

The casino, currently closed indefinitely because of the COVID-19 crisis, is located on Exit No. 61 between Wayland and Martin on the U.S.-131 expressway. It has been open since 2011 since the Gun Lake Tribe of Potawatomis earned a gaming campact.

The Best and Brightest Companies to Work For competition includes thousands of companies across West Michigan and identifies and honors organizations that display a commitment to excellence in their human resource practices and employee enrichment. Organizations are assessed based on categories such as communication, work-life balance, employee education, diversity, recognition, retention and more.

“Gun Lake Casino strives daily to maintain our position as the premier employer in West Michigan, and we are proud to be recognized as one of the best and brightest,” said Sal Semola, president and chief operating officer for Gun Lake Casino. “This recognition is very special as it is a direct result of what our team members have to say about our workplace. The best interest of our team members is at the heart of every decision that we make and providing a great work environment for them leads to improvement in their lives as well as the satisfaction of our guests.”

The areas under consideration as an employer included:

  • Employee enrichment, engagement and retention
  • Recruitment, selection and orientation
  • Employee education and development
  • Communication and shared vision
  • Diversity and inclusion

Team members receive an array of benefits, including free medical, dental and vision benefits, in addition to free life insurance and long-term disability, a quarterly bonus plan, safe harbor 401k plan, college tuition reimbursement, free daily meals, paid breaks and free uniforms.
