Gun Lake fatal crash victim was Wayland couple’s son

Jacob William Haverkamp, son of Donna Rozema Haverkamp and Daniel Haverkamp of Wayland, was killed in a traffic crash near Gun Lake June 24.

Jake was born March 29, 1999, in Grand Rapids, graduated Lakeview High School and was employed at Stephens Pipe and Steel as a welder. Jake was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting with family and friends at the cabin, visiting the lake at his dad’s with his girlfriend, Rachel Willoughby, where he would fish. Jake enjoyed playing pool and the many conversations sitting around the fire pit with his Mom.

Jake will be remembered for his big smile, his laugh, his sheer goofiness, and the love he had for his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents Donna Rozema Haverkamp and Dan and Alison Haverkamp, step sister Kaitlin Ruby, step brother Turner Ruby, grandparents Jack and Jackie Haverkamp, Joyce and Larry Swisher and Lou Fournier, as well as aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by Grandma Mary Ruth Haverkamp, Grandpa and Grandma Jack and Barbara Rozema, Uncle Mike Haverkamp, and Cousin Amanda Joy Haverkamp. =

A private family service will be held and a celebration of life for family and friends will be held sometime in August.

In Lieu of Flowers the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery in Jacobs name. “Brighton Center Aftercare Program” The online donation link: http://Stjohnprovfoundations.org/ways-to-give/donate-online
