After a woman was rescued Saturday by local authorities, Gun Lake is closed to snowmobiles because the ice is too thin and very weak, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman was rescued from the top of a partially submerged snowmobile after it fell through ice Saturday morning near Patterson Road north of 124th Avenue. A boat had to be used to reach the victim.

Yankee Springs Township firefighters said she was standing on top of the snowmobile but was partially in the water. The woman was examined by Wayland Area Emergency Services ambulance personnel after being rescued.
