Fire early Thursday morning destroyed the Dorr area home of Nicholas and Julie Harnish.

Though all members of the family of six were able to escape unharmed during the blaze, it left the house a total loss, according to the Hopkins Fire Department.

The family now is seeking clothing and shelter in the area.

“I’ve had hundreds of people ask what we need,” Julie Harnish posted on Facebook. “We are staying at my parents until we find a rental. There’s a collection of things in their pole barn. If anyone knows of a rental available, big enough for six, in Hopkins school district, that’s the biggest thing right now.

The four children need clothing almost immediately because they were planning to go to summer camp, starting Sunday, but they lost everything.

“They need tennis shoes, t-shirts, shorts, swimsuits, socks, underwear, Bibles, flashlights, bug spray, beach towels, travel size toiletries, and sleeping bags,” Julie indicated. “No one has shoes.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call or get in touch with Mary Swainston in Hopkins. Items can be dropped off at Julie’s parents’ house at  4139 24th. Street Dorr. There are tables set up in the pole barn.

Julie said she and her husband have most of their clothes because the basement didn’t burn and that’s where their room was. However, shoes and sizes needed are as follows:

Nicholas Harnish shoes, 10.5-11; Julie, shoes 8.5; Hailey, youth xl, 12/14, or juniors 0, shoes 5.5;
Malachi, youth l, 10/12, shoes 5.5; Brayden, youth m-l, pants 8, shoes 4; Noah youth m-l, pants 8, shoes 4.

“Everyone is OK and it’s just things,” she said. “They’re thinking (firefighters) something was smoking for a couple days in the attic and the heat just set off a spark.”
