Henika District Library Director Molly Walker has announced she has accepted a position as a youth librarian in Alaska.
Walker has served as director of the Henika Library for the past three years, succeeding Elysha Cloyd. She was appointed after she served as an intern at Henika for four months.
“This is truly an amazing and exciting opportunity for Molly and the Library Board hopes everyone will join us in wishing her well on this new adventure,’ Said Library Board President Teresa Fulk. “The loss of Molly will be felt by our library and community.
“Molly has implemented innovative programming, facilitated increased community involvement with the library, and has served as an exemplary ambassador of the library in the community. We are grateful for her service and appreciate her contributions to our community.”
Walker was hired while she was working on completing her master’s degree in library and information science at Wayne State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Grand Valley State University.
The Library Board is planning a farewell reception for the community to wish Walker well on her new adventure. The reception is tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Library. Her last day here will be May 15.
Fulk said the Library Board is moving swiftly on seeking a replacement.
“It is the desire of the board to have a candidate in place as close to that date (May 15) as possible,” Fulk said.
The Henika District Library had the unusual distinction of having just four directors in its first 98 years of existence, but since Lynn Mandaville retired almost four years ago after 29 years, Heniks now is seeking its third director since then.
