Hopkins 4th will be celebrated on the 4th

The Hopkins Independence Day celebration will take place all day on Friday, July 4, with most activities planned for the downtown area of the community.

Opening the annual festival will be the “Freedom 5K run,” sponsored by the Hopkins Cross-Country Club, getting under way at 7 a.m. Meanwhile, a free Breakfast in the Park, sponsored by the Hopkins Community Church, will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Village Park 

Registration for the bed races downtown will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and the races will begin at 11 a.m.

Registration for the big baking contest will be held at the Information Tent from 11:45 a.m. to noon. The pie baking contest and judging will follow from 12:15 to 1:30.

The pet and bay photo contests are planned for noon to 3 p.m. at the Info Tent, with the most money collected deciding the winning entries.

Hopkins Cheerleading will sponsor the family games and music activities in the park from noon to 3:30 p.m. 

The car show will be presented from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hopkins Elementary School bus loop.

The Hopkins FFA’s kids’ tractor pull competition will be held from 2 to 3 p.m.

Bounce houses will be available on the soccer fields from 1 to 7:30 p.m.

The United Bank Hopkins branch will sponsor the annual kids’ parade downtown from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

The adults’ community parade will have lineup get under way at 4 p.m. The actual parade will start at 5 p.m.behind the Hopkins Middle School.

Boy Scout Troop No. 96 will lead the playing of the national anthem and color guard presentation at 5:45.

The pie eating contest will get under way at 6 p.m. at the Village Park. Pies will be provided by The Hopkins Hometown Celebration Committee. Winners will be announced on the pavilion stage at the park from 6:15 to 6:30.

Live music will take over the festivities from 6:30 to 9 p.m., featuring the Copy Kats.

The final activity of the day will be Wyatt Frank and Pyrotechnico presenting the fireworks at dusk.
