Martin on April 15 reported two new cases of the Covid-19 virus in the junior high and high school, but plans remain for in-person classroom instruction five days a week.

Hopkins has a system of in-person instruction four days a week and virtual on-line classes on Wednesdays. Superintendent Gary Wood said the plans will continue.

Athletic contests will continue as scheduled.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and health officials Friday morning, April 9, asked schools to go to all virtual learning instead of classroom instruction and pause spring sports to a two-week period immediately after resumption of most Michigan high schools because of spring break.

Hopkins, Martin and Wayland all declined to follow the recommendation, but Wayland High School since has experienced high number of Covid cases and the s chool board Monday night decied to go to the hybrid model for the remainder of the academic year.

Wood earlier this month said in a letter to parents, “We are basing this decision on local data indicating that we have not experienced the spread of COVID-19 within our schools. This is always subject to change based on new data indicating community spread, the ability to provide adequate staffing and our local health department’s recommendations.

“As parents, you have the choice to fluidly change your student to remote learning at both the high school and middle school levels. Please communicate any changes to the building principal. You can also help us keep our schools open by closely monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and following recommended mitigation protocols.”
