Hopkins Public Schools is seeking applicants for one vacant seat on the Board of Education.

The vacancy is the result of only two candidates running for three open seats in the November general election. Incumbent Jessica Johnston and and new comer Abdrea Buist both ran unopposed.

Incumbents Ben Brenner, Jay Gibson and John Myers chose not to seek another four-year term.

The individual appointed to fill the vacant position will serve at least until the Nov.8, 2022, elections have been held and certified and a newly elected individual has been sworn-in to fill the remainder of this position’s term, through Dec. 31, 2026.

Interested citizens must be at least 18 years of age; a citizen of the United States; a resident of the State of Michigan and a resident of the Hopkins Public Schools district; a register voter in the school district.

Those interested should may send a letter expressing their interest to Mrs. Karen Ryan, Secretary, Board of Education, Hopkins Public Schools, 400 Clark St., Street, Hopkins, MI 49328. This letter must be received in the Superintendent’s Office no later than 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
