Hopkins chooses alumn to coach Lady Vikes

The Hopkins High School athletic department has decided to go in-house for its next varsity girs’ basketball coach.

Viking alumn Kennedy Helderop has been hired to guide the Vikings for their next season.

Helderop was a three-year starter at point guard for Hopkins in her prep career and then she played four years at guard for Cornerstone University, teaming up with Wayland’s Stephanie Ainsworth for some of the winningest campaigns in the college’s hoops history.

As a senior at Cornerstone, she played in and started all 29 games. Was third on the team in points per game with 9.9, and she led the team in assists with 148 on the year. Helderop averaged 4.4 rebounds per game and led the team with 63 steals on the season. She was selected to the second-team All-WHAC honors.
