Hopkins food service worker dies at age 80

Linda Eileen Herring, of Allegan,died Dec. 6 at Rehoboth Oaks, Assisted Living Home in Dorr after a 12+ year battle with dementia at the age of 80.

Linda was born on May 28, 1944, in Allegan, the daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Nowakowski. She worked tirelessly for the Hopkins Public School food program from which she retired from as she spent many previous years caring for the elderly, including her mom and dad until their passing. She spent time at Ely Manor, Allegan General Hospital, and did private home care as well.

Linda enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of her flower beds or spending time taking a road trip to Shipshewana with Boots or yard-saling and second hand shopping with her sister Diane or daughter Pat and her granddaughters, along with Rick and Mary Mudget.

Linda is survived by her children: Sandra Herring of Longmont, Colo., Tami (Greg) Burd of Wayland and Patti (Jay) Qualls of Allegan; five grandchildren: Lacey (Zack), Pete (Michael), Mathew (Chelsea), Amber, and Erin (Corey); seven great-grandchildren: Madison, Emily, Aubrey, David, Jacob, Maverick and Rachel; and her sister Diane with a niece and nephew and their children with a multitudes of friends whose lives she encountered throughout her journey.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to Rehoboth Assisted Living Home Building Fund or Hopkins FFA via Jessica Couch.
