
To say that Hopkins girls’ basketball has been on a roll lately is an understatement.
The Lady Vikings Friday evening posted a 61-28 victory over Wyoming Godwin Heights, scoring their eighth straight triumph and keeping them atop the O-K Silver Conference standings.
Hopkins now owns a 9-1 record in league play and perennial champion Grandville Calvin Christian is 8-1. The two teams have split in two head-to-head encounters, with the Squires prevailing 64-57 on Jan. 6, but the Vikings turning the tables 51-35 earlier this week.
Galesburg-Augusta girls 40 Martin 38
The Martin girls’ basketball team has had two nail-biters against Galesburg-Augusta this season.
Unfortunately the Lady Clippers have lost both of them.
They led the Rams Friday night by tight margins at the period stops 9-8, 16-14 and 25-24. They finally lost 40-38 in overtime. They lost by just one point, 44-43 in their first meeting last month. The Rams now are 10-3 overall.
Martin’s overall season record fell to 6-7 with the defeat. Next on the schedule is a contest at Coloma Tuesday evening.
Holland boys 48 Wayland 35
The Wildcats were handed their 12th loss in their last 13 games Friday night. They now have an overall season record of 4-12.
Galesburg-Augusta boys 72 Martin 41
The Clippers fell to 5-11 with the loss Friday evening. They will play Coloma Tuesday.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Townbroadcast incorrectly reported that the Wayland girls will play South Christian on the road Friday night, Feb. 6. The Wildcats and Sailors will meet Tuesday evening, Feb. 10. So the ‘Cats won’t lose three in one week.
