Hopkins girls make it 10 in a row, however unimpressively

It wasn’t particularly impressive, but the Hopkins girls’ basketball team registered its 10th consecutive victory of the season with a 46-37 decision at Fruitport.

The Lady Vikings now own an overall record of 13-3 and they are a half game up on Calvin Christian in the O-K Silver Conference derby at 10-1.

They will play Friday at home against Kelloggsville. Afterward they still have to play Belding and Comstock Park to complete the league season.

Along the way, they’ll match up against some interesting non-conference opponents in Homer, Kalamazoo Hackett and Plainwell.

The Hopkins boys’ squad fell to Fruitport 70-47 and their season record slipped to 2-15.

South Christian girls 62 Wayland 47

The No.1-ranked and undefeated South Christian squad was too much for visiting Wayland Tuesday evening.

The Lady Wildcats scored 20 more points than they did Jan. 13 in their first encounter with the Sailors, who now are 17-0 for the season overall.

Wayland played some terrific basketball in the first half and enjoyed a 24-21 lead at the break. However, they could not keep up the intensity needed for the rest of the way.

Freshman Jordan Grevenstuk poured in 13 points to lead Wayland. Addie Sokarski added 11 and Marissa Ainsworth 10.

Laney Wolf and Charity Laker both swished a three.

The Wildcats now are 12-4 for the season.

Martin girls 27 Coloma 22

The Lady Clippers ended a modest four-game losing streak with the victory on the road They evened their season record at 7-7. Coloma, meanwhile, fell to 2-11.

Martin will play against neighborhood rival Delton on Friday.

The Clipper boys were almost doubled up, 59-30, against Watervliet. The defeat left them with a season record of 5-13.

South Christian boys 81 Wayland 58

The Wildcats were outmatched by the Sailors in an O-K Gold Conference matchup. The loss dropped Wayland’s overall season record to 4-13.
