Hopkins guys take 2nd in GVSU Laker track challenge

The Hopkins varsity track season got off to a quality start Friday, as the boys finished second among 29 teams at the GVSU Laker Challenge and the girls took ninth.

Four school records were broken, including Riley Homrich in the girls 60-meter dash, 7.95 seconds; Kellen Ford in the boys 60, at 6.98 seconds and 22-52 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Clayton Kerber,  turned in an 8.55 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Ford, a senior, besides a first in the 60-meter dash, was second in the 200.

Senior Jack Estelle placed first in the 1600-meter run at 4:27.82.

Junior Noah Opolski finished sixth in the shot put, 46-11.75, and junior Jace Hibma was 10th in the long jump, 19-2.

Olivet won the team total with 52 points, Hopkins was second with 41. Total of 29 teams competed.

Senior Riley Homrich aside from her first in the 60, was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.11 seconds.

Lillian Dewey, a junior, was eighth in the 1600, 5:42.59. Andrea Brower, a junior, took 10th in the 60-meter hurdles, 10.93 seconds, and junior Keilah Bonga, was 10th in the shot put, 30-3.75.
