Jeremy Lee Hibma, 19, of Wayland, was killed early Saturday morning when the SUV he was driving crashed into the back of a semi-truck stopped for a red light on 100th Street in Byron Township, Kent County.

Kent County Sheriff’s authorities said Hibma, a 2016 graduate of Hopkins High School, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on 100th Street near the U.S.-131 expressway exit. The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Bernard Kline of Grand Rapids, 59, driver of the semi, was not injured, police said.

Hibma was not wearing a seat belt and investigators said they believe speed was a factor .
