
The Hopkins volleyball team came up with a big dual match victory over perennial power Calvin Christian to lifts its O-K Silver Conference record to 3-1
The Lady Vikings prevailed in four sets, 25-16, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-23, coming from behind to take the finale after trailing by six points.
Hopkins has had a long running battle with the Squires for the Silver volleyball crown. Calvin Christian now is 2-2 in the league. Fruitport is in first place in the league standings with a 3-0 record.
The contest Wednesday night also was the annual “Pink Out” game in which both teams wear pink uniforms to call attention to the continuing effort against breast cancer.
In individual statistics, Kylee Sykes, Faith Brown and Cora Hall each had two serving aces. Sykes led in assists with 22 and Brown added five.
Cora Hall led in the kills department with nine an Kelsey Burgess, Leah Williams both added eight, Kally Bishop four and Cora Hall three.
Kavy Martinez contributed 15 digs and senior setter Kylee Sykes had 12.
Hopkins now has a 15-12-2 overall record and will play NorthPointe Christian in its next game Thursday, Oct. 2.
