June 14 is the traditional date for Flag Day, and in these parts it was a day to either stay inside with air conditioning or get wet, such as with the splash pad (cover photo) at Wayland City Park. The Dorr American Legion Flag Day ceremony was canceled due to the oppressive heat and humidity, hot dogs still were for sale for $2.50 each, and horseshoe players competed. As indicated, the temp was 96 degrees Tuesday afternoon and the heat index bested 100 degrees.
