The ice storm cometh.

Allegan County and West Michigan were pummeled Wednesday by between a half inch and an inch of ice that caused store closings, school closings and many traffic accidents.

The Wayland Fire Department Wednesday afternoon responded to a semi and a car crash near the No. 59 Exit at Shelbyville on the U.S. -131 expressway. Firefighters said the left lane northbound was blocked for a couple of hours.

Word hadn’t been received yet about prospects for schools to be closed again. The makeup basketball game between Hopkins and Wyoming Godwin Heights had to be called off and there was no word about it being rescheduled.

The Wayland Fire Department was established as a warming station for anyone who loses power and heat.
