‘Intimate burial’ will be April 4 for WHS grad Don Engel

Donald Ray Engel, age 78, a 1966 graduate of Wayland High School, died Feb. 15.

Donald is survived by his children: Donna Blakely; Rob Gardner (Robb Melville); Lisa (Dan) Williams; Heather (Mike) Reger; Amy (Asdras) Jackson; and Sara (Terrence) Murphy. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Donald dedicated many years of service to Western Michigan University, working at the university’s sports complex. In retirement, he continued serving his community as a crossing guard for the local public schools. He was a familiar and friendly face each summer at the Allegan County Fair, where he volunteered his time.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Donald’s life on April 4. An intimate burial will take place at Poplar Hill Cemetery, followed by a gathering for family and friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Rob’s home, 12730 Goldenrod Court, Wayland.
Donald will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his quiet commitment to serving his community.
