Is the Wayland Area Ambulance Service facing some kind of a rebellion?

WAEMS officials have been up front about increases this year in contributions from municipalities, but Dorr Township Clerk Debbie Sewers Thursday night brought up the possibility of switching to another service.

“Have you considered a service other than Wayland?” Sewers asked her colleagues on the Dorr Township Board. She added she’s been hearing things from other township officials and “We are concerned about that increase.”

The clerk said she doesn’t want to disparage the WAEMS, but “I want to make the right decision for us.”

The comments come after Watson Supervisor Kevin Travis and Monterey Supervisor Henry Reinart made brief presentations to the Leighton Board last month about why contribution increases were believed to be necessary.

Furthermore, the Martin Township Board explored hooking up with Plainwell Ambulance, but decided to stay the course.

Wayland Area Emergency Services is a non-profit that is supported by 12 area municipalities and the City of Wayland. There are user fees, as well as Medicare and Medicaid to fund the service.
