Wednesday proved to be an interesting and troubling weather day in West Michigan, thanks to high winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour, and at times up to 60 mph, causing damage and power outages.

At one time there were reports of much of the Martin area being without power. The Martin Township Board meeting Wednesday evening was canceled.

This photo (above) shows an uprooted tree in the City of Wayland. The photo below is of an uprooted tree resulting in traffic being blocked  on Dahlia Street.

High winds were issues for Hastings, Yankee Springs, Hopkins and Wayland firefighters trying extinguish a house fire near Gun Lake just off Patterson Road. The homeowners were out of town and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Winds were so powerful in Woodland in Barry County that the school there, in the Lakewood district, had to be evacuated.
