James Gaunce of Dorr dies just 4 days after 77th birthday

3085261James O. Gaunce of Dorr, formerly of Hopkins, died Thursday, April 23, at his home.

Mr. Gaunce was born April 19, 1938, in Carlisle, Kentucky, the son the late, Lovell and Pearl (Bellamy) Gaunce. Jim graduated from high school in Kentucky, and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for more than 25 years with Spartan, as a truck driver, retiring in 1998. He loved camping, travel, music and hunting.

Surviving are his four children: Jennifer and Larry Raab, Janet and Kevin Johnson, Julie Velioglu, June and Rod McKinnon; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: W.C. and Pat Gaunce, Bud Bellamy, Stanley and Leta Bellamy; 3 sisters: Anna Cassidy, Margaret and William Pittman, Helen Gaunce; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia.

Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Greg Carlson will officiate. Interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township.
