Jean Vander Veen’s service will be Thursday

Jean Vander Veen, age 93, died Friday, Oct. 17.

Jean enjoyed working at the family farm and raising, feeding and tending to their chickens. Most importantly, she cherished her faith and made a special point to share it with those she met. Jean was an avid prayer warrior and kept a place in her heart for those whom she met.

She is survived by her children Nick (Diana) Vander Veen, Linda (Al) Miedema, Laura (Harry) Koster, Marilyn (Bob) Becksvoort, Eric (Jen) Vander Veen; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Hoven; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Vander Veen, and siblings Ella (Herm) Murphy, Ann Steenwyk, Clarence (Agnus) Hoven, Don Hoven, Bernice (Bud) Visser, Bill (Donna) Hoven, Etta DeGroot, Bob (Jane) Hoven, and Ann Hoven.

A funeral celebrating Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Wayland Christian Reformed Church, 303 E. Elm St., with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

In memory of Jean and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Byron Manor or Faith Hospice.
